Tamora Pierce

This is one of the posts that will be added to the "Authors and What to Read" section of the blog!

Tamora Pierce

I discovered Tamora Pierce while I was in college. A friend knew my reading tastes and gave me a few of her novels to start reading. I immediately fell in love with her fantasy world and its’ inhabitants.  Pierce’s novels center around a fictional country called Tortall in the times of knights and dragons. She always features a strong, female heroine who defies the strains that men in her society have put on her. Women during her time are not allowed to be anything but housewives and ladies of the court and so many times Pierce’s main characters are fighting the way for the liberty of women.

In the first series, The Song of the Lioness, Alanna works to become the first lady knight in history. She has to battle evil sorcerers and help the future king find strength in himself to become a great leader. The best thing about Tamora’s novels is that all of the stories are connected and revolve around the city of Tortall. The characters you grew to love in The Song of the Lioness series can be also seen and heard from in two other of Pierce’s stories. It’s fun to see characters that you felt a connection with previously, all grown up and helping out the younger people in the kingdom. Her books are full of mystical creatures, magic, wars, knights, princesses and so much more. Below are some of the first books in her most popular series as well as a collection of short stories that I hope to read soon!

The first in the Song of the Lioness Quartet

The first in The Immortals Quartet

The First in the Beka Cooper series

A collection of short stories in Tortall

For more information, check out Tamora’s website: http://www.tamora-pierce.com/index.html (it is not very user friendly, so I’d suggest checking out Amazon.com or Bn.com for more information about her books!)

Happy Reading :)
