I know what you're thinking... long, long time no blog, right? We'll it's been one of those work weeks where I work a 9 hour day at work, come home eat and sleep. I have to say I'm a little stressed. But I decided to sit down and read City of Bones again. It's been a month of re-reads for me. I've used the books that I've read over and over again almost like I use mashed potatoes as my comfort food. So, without further adieu, here is my review for City of Bones!
The story begins with the young Clary Fray as she and her friend, Simon, dance the night away at Clary's favorite club, Pandemonium. The people there are always strange looking with their neon hair, crazy piercings and outrageous clothing. Clary notices a boy being followed by a beautiful young girl and two young men, and she can feel that something awful is about to happen. She follows them into a storage closet where the stalkers proceed to stab the young man and kill him. What is most astonishing about this is not that the boy is stabbed, but that he vanishes after being killed. It is at this moment, that Clary's life changes forever. Clary learns of a world that she never knew existed, right under her nose. She's introduced to the Shadowhunters or Nephilim, whose purpose in life is to rid the world of demons. Sucked into the world of the Shadowhunters Clary must enlist their help to save her mother and try to defeat the most evil Shadowhunter of all time.
This book is so amazing. Cassandra Clare really does have a super power in the form of writing awesome books. I'm a huge fan of her Mortal Instruments series as well as her Infernal Devises books as well. City of Bones is such a strong kick off to the Mortal Instrument series. We are introduced to all of the characters and their back stories as this is a very character driven novel. Books with a heavy emphasis on characters tend to bore me as there are too many long stories about past experiences to build up their backgrounds, but with this book, I was itching for every single piece of information I cold get about the characters.
Of course their is a romance in the book and this one is a sort of tragedy alongside the likes of Romeo and Juliet. Clary and Jace are such a dynamic couple. It is in them that we see Clare's gift of ever frustrating her readers to the point of throwing the book across the room and then begrudgingly hopping out of bed to go grab it to see what happens next. How does she frustrate me to the point of almost tears and still make me crave for more? We may never know. It's the charm of Cassandra Clare's writing and I have to say, that I'm a very happy, yet frustrated reader.
If you haven't read this series yet, I strongly suggest that you get started. These books are such a treasure to read and Clare is throwing a lot at us in a very short time. The next book in the series, City of Lost Souls comes out this May. Her next installment of the Infernal Devices,Clockwork Princessis set to be released in early 2013. This series is a sort of prequel to the Mortal Instruments series. She's staring a brand new Shadowhunter series called the Dark Artifices and book one is going to be called Lady Midnight and will be coming out in 2015. And lastly, and probably most importantly, filming begins this August for the City of Bones movie! Ahhh! And who is to play Clary and the handsome Jace?
Below I've also attached the brand spakin' new book trailer forCity of Lost Souls. There are some spoilers in here so if you haven't read the series yet, I'm forewarning you to not press the play button! You'll be disappointed in yourself!
Overall, awesome start to an enchanting series!
7 out of 10 (only because I've liked other books in the series better!)
Happy Reading!

What's Hot?
So I know I'm late but... I love this review! TMI series will forever have my heart. Clary and Jace are one of the few YA couples that are relatively healthy. Also, what are your thoughts on the TV show?
