Yesterday I reviewed Sweet Evil, the first book in The Sweet Trilogy, and today I'm going to dive into Sweet Peril. I may or may not have read all 3 books in the span of a few days, but you can hardly blame me when these books are addicting and so so sweet.

I don't want to give too much of a synopsis for fear of giving anything away, but I will tell you that Sweet Peril picks up right where Sweet Evil left off.

There is so much at stake for our characters in this awesome sequel. Our league of Nephelium must travel the world to recruit others to stand with them. We get a lot more about the different Neph children and their sins as we're introduced to a few new key characters. I like what Higgins is setting up here... we're sure to have an epic finally with all of her build up!

You still see the same lovable Anna but this time, she's got a little bit more of a dark side. She's having to struggle with her inner voice that's reminds her to do good and be honest. Her dark side, on the other hand, urges her to abuse the substances that she craves and to enjoy the work she's doing to corrupt Atlanta's youth. Needless to say, she's got a lot going on.

Kaiden, our lovable bad-boy brit, is still in the picture but he's giving Anna the cold shoulder and keeping his distance... which leads to an excellent love-triangle that's done right. I've read both YA and Adult Romance stories that have a love-triangle and it's always disappointing and frustrating. Now I know love-triangles are meant to create a little frustration, after all that's what they're for, but most make me lose my interest in the story. In Sweet Peril, Higgins creates a love-triangle that has you pulling for Anna because she makes all the right choices and does what's right by the hunky men in her life.

Fans of Kaiden, don't fret too much. He comes back into he picture about halfway through and has moments that will make you laugh out loud and melt into a puddle on the floor. There are a whole lot of swoon worthy moments that make you question whether Anna is really part angel. It is in those moments that made me really like book two, dare I say more than book one?

Overall, this is one of my favorite sequels and is a story that sets up our finale to be pretty damn epic. This series is a must read!!!

As I said in my update yesterday, I've really gotten away from reading YA books as of late. For some reason, only romance novels have been holding my interest and even though I have shelves and shelves of YA books that have yet to be read, I couldn't get myself to read them.

I have been lending YA books to a friend (and fellow blogger) at work and I gave her Sweet Evil last week. She immediately fell in love and told me that I absolutely had to start reading. She also told me that I was stupid for having this one collect dust on my shelf for a year.

It's her birthday this week and she found Wendy Higgins's release party event for Sweet Surrender will be in D.C. and we plan on attending so I knew I had to get reading.

Sweet Evil tells the story of Anna, a seemingly ordinary and innocent southern girl who can see emotions. Everywhere she goes, she see's the colors of auras surrounding people. There's pink for love, orange for excitement, green for envy, and red for lust. She and her adoptive mother seem to live a quiet, albeit strange, life in Atlanta but all of that changes when she meets Kaiden Rowe. The sexy drummer of a local band about to make it big. He's got a reputation for being a total bad boy and heavenly in the sack and Anna can't seem to get him out of her head. As she finds herself drawn to him more and more, Anna learns that not only is she only half human, but the weight of the moral world's future may be on her shoulders.

Now I will preface this review by saying that books about angels and I don't normally get along... for proof see my abysmal review for Fallen by Lauren Kate. I don't know if it's the fact that I'd rather read about bad boy vampires and werewolf's than half angels and demons, but this sub-genre of YA has never really called to me.

Sweet Evil is different than any other angel themed YA I've read. You fall for our leading lady, Anna, almost instantaneously. She's innocent, pure, and good but she's got a side of her that we all have: part of her wants to give into the sins that tempt her. You can't help but pull for her good girl trying not to go bad persona. She's definitely climbing her way to the top of my list of favorite YA heroines.

Kaiden on the other hand is the bad boy of every girls dreams. Not only is he stunningly attractive, charismatic, cheeky, and a drummer... he's also got an English accent. Higgins pulled out all the stops to bring us the lust-worthy Kaiden Rowe and I couldn't picture a better devil for our angelic Anna.

I truly love the characters the Higgins created, but they would be nothing without her superb writing, on point pacing, and a plot filled with moments that will make you swoon, laugh, and cry all at once. The only thing that I would change would be to have maybe one more Kaiden and Anna interaction before the climactic ending. If we had had one more meeting between our lovers before the story comes to it's final scene, I think it would of felt a little less rushed and a little more believable.

Even with that said, Sweet Evil is absolutely fantastic and if you haven't read it before, it's definitely one to pick up. Look out for my reviews to come this week for Sweet Peril and Sweet Surrender... yes I got the final book early. Sometimes it pays to have your local book store not know anything about books because they put them out 4 days too early!
It's been a while but things are finally calming down around here and I've had the itch to get back to blogging for a while now. So we're going to start Abibliophobic up again and see how it goes!

My reading tastes have changed a little bit since I was actively blogging. I've been reading a lot more New Adult and Adult Contemporary novels as of late and it takes a really special YA title to peak my interest.

So expect a lot more steamy reads on Abibliophobic but there will still be the occasional YA. In fact, this week I'll be reviewing The Sweet Trilogy by Wendy Higgins. She actually lives in my area and I'm going to her release party for Sweet Surrender later this week. I thought that would be a fun way to get back into blogging with some reviews of a really awesome series, a post about an author meet and greet, and of course, some signed swag to be given away towards the end of the week.

I'm excited to get back into blogging and to see what's been happening in the blog-o-sphere!
I love a series that follows a group of people, featuring a new couple in each installment. Series that go 3, 4, and even 5 books about the same couple are annoying to wait for and can make me lose interest by the time the next installment is released. If you're like me, you won't be able to put the books in this series down!

but of course, that’s what Glines was going for. In the upcoming spin off
series, the main characters are going to be Grant, Rush’s half-brother, Nan and
her half-sister Harlow. These are complicated family relationships. It seems
the good folks of Rosemary Beach are taking a leaf out of the Star Wars movies.
But I’m excited to see where things go with Grant because I’ve been a fan of
him since book one and I fell for Harlow. She’s a quiet and well-mannered young

Hello all! I am back after quite a few crazy weeks. I moved out of my old apartment, into a new one (with a two week gap in between, so I had some fun staying with relatives) and had so many crazy deadlines at work. I haven't had much time to read at all! But now I'm back with a gem that I discovered a few weeks ago. I had downloaded quite a few books at once last month, being all jazzed about my new Kindle. One of those books was something I stumbled upon on Goodreads. It’s a book called Crave, and I was very intrigued by the synopsis. I decided to give it a whirl, and I am so glad I did. Crave is one of my new favorite books.

Savannah Colbert is your average teenager. She’s a freshman in high school, doesn’t have an athletic bone in her body, and is regularly picked on by a clique of students called The Clann. Savannah was once friends with the kids in The Clann, but mysteriously they stopped speaking to her after fourth grade. Unable to comprehend why they went from best friends to enemies, Savannah takes solace in her girlfriends who always stick up for her. Everything is going normal until Savannah gets mysteriously sick. She passes out and wakes up five days later to the news that she’s a half-vampire, half-witch. Savannah’s parents explain that she got sick because her body was going through “the change” – meaning her vampire abilities may start to develop. Savannah learns that her mother is a former member of The Clann, which is actually a group of witches. Her father is a vampire (or incubus, to be exact) who feeds off both blood and human energy. Both The Clann and the vampire council told Savannah’s mother and father their love was against the rules, as vampires and witches had been warring for years. Savannah’s parents ignored their warnings, and the result was half-breed Savannah. Savannah is dangerous to The Clann because their blood is particularly irresistible to vampires, and The Clann elders refused to let their children around her once they learned what she was. While Savannah knows it’s in her best interest to avoid The Clann and heed her parents’ warnings about her ever-growing vampire abilities, Savannah can’t help but feel drawn to the gorgeous future Clann leader, Tristan. What she doesn’t know is that the feeling is mutual, and that Tristan has loved Savannah from a far since fourth grade.

This book was AMAZING. I could not put it down. I mean, to the extent I was cooking dinner and reading my kindle in the kitchen. I’m sure that was a sight for my boyfriend, watching me stir noodles with one hand and read with the other. I loved how the author told the story from both Tristan and Savannah’s point of view, because it was nice to see what each of their thought processes. I was also very compelled by the connection the two of them shared. It was the perfect, not-overly-angsty high school romance to add to a really awesome plot. It was very clear from the beginning that Tristan and Savannah were not going to be able to stay away from each other. One of my favorite aspects of the book is how protective Tristan became over Savannah. Savannah develops a mesmerizing daze that makes men she looks at become completely obsessed with her – sometimes violently. Tristan sees this and makes a point to put protective charms in her bags so the boys will leave her alone. Tristan manages to be protective without being Edward Cullen-creepy, which is a fine line.

I love that Tristan and Savannah are very in tune with each other’s emotions. I think the connection between the two of them was probably the best part of the book. The back and forth of will they-won’t they was enough to get your heart racing but not enough to irritate you. Every time they got close to kissing or talking about their feelings, I couldn’t help but hold my breath. I was so invested in their relationship. I could understand Savannah’s hesitation to get close to him, knowing that she might develop bloodlust and risk harming him. Crave has a good balance of romantic turmoil that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

I think Crave is a really interesting premise. In the age of vampire and witch/warlock books, it is original enough to be interesting but definitely borrows ideas about vampires and witches without going overboard. I never felt like I was reading a Twilight or Harry Potter rip off, which was great. I was concerned initially because I saw some very mixed reviews on Goodreads, but I have to say I can’t imagine why anyone would rate this book low. I've already finished the second book, Covet, and the third book titled Consume was released on August 27 (and I'm almost done).

Becca Ritchie is a carnivore of pop culture, television, film and of course YA and NA books. When she’s not blogging, she writes novels and has teamed up with her twin sister for their New Adult novel ADDICTED TO YOU. Available July of 2013.

that everyone loves and you hate in high school. The interesting part about
Emma’s story is that she gets a second chance unlike many of us. Emma gets a
semi-clean state and she has the ability to change her perception of herself
and she can chose the path she wants her future to follow. She made the story
for me.<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">
Here on the east coast, it's a very rainy Tuesday. So what better TopTen to feature than our favorite summer reads. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme/feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Maybe our list of sunshine reads will bring back the sun for our last few weeks of summer!
This is more of a compelation that a ranked list, but Jess and I both agreed without argument that Harry Potter is always a go to read for the summer. Whether you are re-reading or remember past summers of midnight book releases and rushing to finish the lastest installment, those books will always be what I reach for on a hot summer day.
some pretty unconventional (and illegal) means of making ends meet for his
family. With a different trashy girl in his bed every night, he’s content with
the life he thinks he deserves. Then there’s Amanda Hardy. The younger sister
of his best friend and the good girl he needs to stay away from. He know’s he’s
not good for a girl like Amanda but when she turns on the charm, he can’t seems

finished. The Infernal Devices trilogy has come to a close. It took me awhile
to actually start reading CP. I would start and then stop and Ih ad a hard time
getting sucked into the story as I did with all of Clare’s other books. I think
the reason for that is because I just didn’t want it to end. I love the
romanticism and poetry in this historical fiction and so it was hard to think
that the series would be over. I’m hoping Clare will dive back into the past of
the Shadowhunter histories to bring us stories from different eras.<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">

story. I promise you this will be a completely spoiler free review so don’t

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">While I did
like the story, this wasn’t my favorite book of hers. I felt like she did a lot
to fit an ending into one book and I was finding myself skimming the romantic,
tedious language used at times. I felt like some of the internal dialog could
have been cut and the story could have been a bit more concise. Towards the
end, the story shifted perspectives so much I found myself getting frustrated
(but I think that was the point). Just when we’d be about to find something
massive, she’d switch to the meeting of two forbidden lovers. I got frustrated,
but it served it’s purpose of making you want to read more.<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">

ending (again, spoiler free! I promise!). I’m not sure how I felt about it. I
was with Clare all the way up to the Epilogue and that’s where I’m not sure how
I feel about things. We end the story in 2008, presumably right after things go
down with our favorite shadowhunters in NYC. There is reference to an
“adventure” ending with Herondales, Lightwoods and Fairchilds. It was a
bittersweet ending and I’d love to hear what those who have read the book
thought.

<span style="color: black; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Let
me tell you. After finishing this steamy first book in the Breathless series, I
cannot wait to start book 2. If you’re looking for a romance a la FiftyShades or Bared to You, look no further. Rush is a sexy and
touching ride that really will leave you breathless.

Gabe, Jace, and Ash: three of the wealthiest, most powerful men in the country. They’re accustomed to getting anything they want. Anything at all. For Gabe, it’s making one particular fantasy come true with a woman who was forbidden fruit. Now she’s ripe for the picking...

When Gabe Hamilton saw Mia Crestwell walk into the ballroom for his hotel’s grand opening, he knew he was going to hell for what he had planned. After all, Mia is his best friend’s little sister. Except she’s not so little anymore. And Gabe has waited a long time to act on his desires.

Gabe has starred in Mia’s fantasies more than once, ever since she was a teenager with a huge crush on her brother’s best friend. So what if Gabe’s fourteen years older? Mia knows he’s way out of her league, but her attraction has only grown stronger with time. She’s an adult now, and there’s no reason not to act on her most secret desires.

As Gabe pulls her into his provocative world, she realizes there’s a lot she doesn’t know about him or how exacting his demands can be. Their relationship is intense and obsessive, but as they cross the line from secret sexual odyssey to something deeper, their affair runs the risk of being exposed—and vulnerable to a betrayal far more intimate than either expected.

really liked Rush. Gabe was your typical business man with a bondage
fetish (you know, a typical businessman...) who falls for his best friend
Jace’s sister. Mia has always been trying to get Gabe’s attention, but their
age difference and her brother always kept her from getting what she wanted. <span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">

dynamic was interesting because while Gabe was the ever domineering and
controlling man, Mia held her own. She is not only feisty, but she’s independent.
She’s okay with being on her own because she’s not making sacrifices for what
she deserves. It was refreshing to read a romance about a woman who wouldn’t be
caught dead playing the damsel in distress. She holds her ground and when
things get tough, she would rather live alone that with someone who doesn’t
treat her the way that she deserves. I’m all the way team Mia.<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">

story is extremely sexually charged and there are some definite down and dirty

was funny, and light and a great summer read. When I met Anna Banks last year,
she was a hoot and a half and I seriously could picture us being best friends.
She’s witty, hilarious and you just can’t wait to see what she says next. Book
2 in the Of Poseidon series was enjoyable for the summer but I’m not
sure if I’m head over heels. <span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">

and the Syrena. We see lost love reunited, betrayal and tyranny in the world of
merfolk as Emma is thrown further into the world that she’s not sure she
belongs in.<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">

of tragic romance, but I was hoping for a little more Emma and Galen time in
book two than what I was given. I was a little disappointed.<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">

writing was well done and the pacing was pretty great, but I was unsure how the
end of the book left us. There really wasn’t a huge cliffhanger and Banks kind
of wrapped things up for us pretty nicely. I had to go online to check and see
if there would be a book three. Apparently there is, it’s called Of Neptune and
will be released sometime next year. I would have liked more of a cliffhanger
or a clear cut ending, but I did enjoy the unexpected teach jerk moments at the
end.<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">

This Tuesday will be mine and Jess's first dive into the world of TopTen Tuesday, a weekly meme/feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. We decided to start off with our favorite topic: fictional book crushes...

Alley's List:

1.Jace (The Mortal Instruments)

2. Dimitri (Vampire Academy)

3. Will (The Infernal Devices)

4. Four (Divergent)

5. Henry (The Goddess Test)

6. Adrian (Bloodlines/Vampire Academy)

7. Finn (The Trylle Series)

8. Daimon (Lux series)

9. Shay (Nightshade)

10. Gale (The Hunger Games)

So originally, I think we were going to try and combine our lists to make one cohesive list of ten... that didn't work out as we were already aruging about what number Four/Tobias should rank (he's number "4" on my list and I didn't even try and do that...). So here are my crushes. As you can probably tell, I love anything by Cassandra Clare and Richelle Mead, but some outlyers made the cut in Shay from Nightshade and Finn from The Trylle series by Amanda Hocking. Now on to Jess's list!

Jess's List:

1. Four (Divergent)

2. Ron Weasley (Harry Potter)

3. Henry (The Goddess Test)

4. Tristan (Crave)

5. Ky Markham (Matched

6. James (The Goddess Test)

7. Jack (Everneath)

8. Percy Jackson (circa The Last Olympians)

9. Ethan (Beautiful Creatures)

10. Prinice Kai (Cinder)

So I think it’s clear from my list that I have a thing for
emotionally unavailable bad boys and totally lovable nerds. Topping my list is
Four, who is the most swoon-worthy of all fictional men in my opinion. And now
that Theo James is my mental image for Four, my crush only gets worse. The rest of the men are totally crushable,
and I hold the most special place in my heart for Ron Weasley. What can I say?
I love gingers. The most surprising to me is Ky from Matched. Although I was pretty
disappointed with the book, I felt very compelled by outsider Ky. Also, on a
side note – Percy Jackson probably would’ve never made my list had it not been
for Logan Lerman. I can’t unsee it, ladies and gentlemen, and it’s a good
thing.
<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">It’s been a
really long time since I’ve been able to get into a YA book. I mean really
enjoy it to the point that I stay up until all hours of the night reading. Sweet
Venom had all of the traits that I love in a YA book: a totally kick ass
heroine (in this case, we get three!), tons of action, a touch of romance and
the holy grail... Greek Mythology. Man do I love me some Greek Myth. This theme
isn’t always done right, but Childs did a fantastic job of bringing the myth of
Medusa into the 21st century.<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">

like her show up at her door to tell her that she’s a descendant of a
snake-haired monster of myth and that they need her help to fight monsters, who
can blame her for slamming the door in their faces? Sweet Venom tells
the story of three twins the must unite and take on what the fates have in
store for them to save those that mean most. <span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">I’m usually not
a huge fan of multiple points of view in a story. I like to hear from one
person and get one perspective. While the alternating POV chapters with the
three different girls were a little confusing at first, they really added to
the story in a way that made you pull for each character.<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">

Greer is kind of a stuck up snot. But their differing personalities were so fun
to read and their interactions ranged from hilarious to heartwarming.

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Obviously I
fell in love with the characters, but the best part of Sweet Venom was
the mysterious plot. Childs kept me on my toes with a balance of mystery, world
building and action. I was never bored and I was always wanting more. In
reading Sweet Venom, I can tell that it’s only the beginning in what I
expect to be a fantastic series. We now have our characters and world
established and it can only get better from here. I tend to be turned off by
books that feel like the sole purpose is to introduce characters and the world,
but Childs unique way of storytelling made book one a springboard for me to
want to dive into the Medsua Sisters series head first.

This week I bought myself a Kindle Paperwhite, so naturally I had to go and buy a ridiculous amount of books to break in my new toy! I went on Goodreads and found all the suggested books for me, and I picked the ones that sounded most interesting. Some were major hits and others were misses (I'll be sending lots of review your way this week) but I'm glad I had some new reading material.
<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">I saw some
pretty intensely positive reviews for Waiting For You and so I decided
to give it a try. It’s a coming of age tale where a dark and dangerous boy
falls in love with the seemingly perfect girl next door.<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Bailey has a
perfectly planned out life. She’s the top of her class, has the perfect
boyfriend and a future laid out by her parents. At graduation, she’s set to
deliver the generic valedictorian speech to her peers about investing in their
future and following their dreams when something just clicks. Bailey realizes
that she doesn’t want the cookie-cutter life her parents forced down her throat
and so she does something no one expects her to do: she gets in the car with
the bad boy in town, her childhood best friend, and goes on an adventure across
the country to find herself.

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">To be honest, I
wasn’t a huge fan of Waiting for You. I had a lot of problems with this
story, but the main issue was the pacing. The story felt like the longest book
I’ve ever read. I kept thinking to myself, “Another trip? More people to meet?
Another fight?!” I checked and this isn’t even close to the longest romance
I’ve read all year....it just felt like it. The plot was choppy and it made it
hard for me to keep my full interest locked in on the book.

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">The characters
were not my favorite either. Bailey and Dylan are two whiny teenager who have
real problems, but choose to run away together to enter into a destructive
relationship. Now this could be the mid-twenties in me talking, but I was more
annoyed than enamored with the couple. Man up! Deal with your issues and your
family and if you’re not going to, at least make me believe in your adventurous
bad decision making tirade. The pair weren’t very likeable making it hard to
cheer on their runaway train wreck.<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Then there was
the immature fighting. They fought, they made up, he got angry, she got angry,
he thought she cheated, he got angry again. So. Much. Drama. And not in a good
way. I love a story with some twists and turns but the immature bickering had
me wanting to pull out my hair and punch the two of them in the face.

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Overall, I
thought Waiting For You drug on way too long and the two love interests
were not easy to like. I’ve read a similar story called The Edge of Never
and it was done so much better. The runaway adventure was believable, the
characters were touching and heart-stoppingly sweet and the overall message
left you in a melted puddle of happiness on the floor. This one wasn’t for me
guys.

I had never heard of Beautiful Creatures before the movie came out. One of my former employees told me one day about her frustration that the movie didn’t match up to the book (spoiler alert: they are TOTALLY different). I put Beautiful Creatures on my reading list shortly after hearing her talk about how much she loved the book.

Beautiful Creatures is narrated by 16 year old student Ethan Wates. Ethan is stuck in the small town of Gatlin, South Carolina where nothing exciting ever happens and being different is a social crime. Ethan has been experiencing strange dreams of a dark haired girl, in which he is trying to rescue her. The dreams seem so real –he can smell the girl’s scent of lemon and rosemary, and he often wakes up in the middle of the night with marks on his body that are consistent with what happened in his dream. The girl haunts his dreams, until one day she appears right at his school. The girl Ethan’s been dreaming of is none other than Lena Duchannes, niece of the town shut-in Macon Ravenwood and new student at Gatlin High school. But with Lena’s arrival comes a slew of odd occurrences, as well as a whole new world Ethan never knew existed.

I love this book. I file this book under one of my favorite books of all time. I typically have trouble relating to a male narrator, but Ethan was so adorable and funny that I had no trouble putting myself in his shoes. I also loved Lena’s character. She is struggling with herself, carrying a family curse while trying to have just a shred of normalcy before her life spirals out of her control. Although she is guarded, and at times temperamental, I couldn’t help but root for her and love her at the same time.

One of my favorite parts of this book is how the author explored the themes of light and dark. Lena, as a Caster, will be claimed for the light or dark on her 16th birthday. Most Casters choose to claim themselves, but due to a family curse where her ancestor Genevieve traded her soul for a mortal’s life, members of Lena’s family are unable to choose. Lena spends the entire book debating on her true nature. Although she is kind and sweet, she is also angry and impulsive. Ethan is convinced that Lena will be claimed for the light, but Lena possesses a maturity to know that it’s not that simple. Lena discovers along the way that it’s impossible for a person to be all light or all dark. Everyone harbors a dark side, but the important thing is choosing to be good. With the choice out of Lena’s hands, she is fearful for what her future holds for both her and Ethan.

I also love the other characters present in the story. Ethan’s best friend Link is your classic sidekick, always showing up to lighten the mood or to support Ethan and Lena. Macon Ravenwood, the supposed hermit, is really a complex and awesome character. He is outspoken, funny, and very protective of Lena and I loved seeing him shake things up in Gatlin! This book introduces many characters but they all help the plot develop.

I think this book is a fantastic read. I couldn’t put it down once I started, so definitely clear out a Saturday if you’re looking to sit down and read this one. It’s a long book but I felt like every page was necessary. I loved watching Ethan and Lena’s relationship blossom, and watching Lena develop into a strong woman and Caster. I highly recommend Beautiful Creatures.

Side note: while the movie is 100% different from the book, I highly recommend it. It is so cute, funny, and well written that I couldn’t help but love it. As long as you keep in mind that it won’t be following the book, you shouldn’t be too upset.

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">With
that out of the way, I can tell you all about my utter frustration with The
Elite. I read The Selection a few days ago and I couldn’t get enough.
Alley had a copy of The Elite, so of course I borrowed it the day after
I finished the first book and devoured it. And while I was prepared for a
whirlwind of emotions, I wasn’t prepared for the disappointment of finishing
the book.<span style="mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">

have not read The Selection and don’t want to see any spoilers, don’t go
any further!<span style="mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">The
book picks up where The Selection left off, with six girls left vying
for Prince Maxon’s heart. I’d like to go further into the plot – but that’s
really it. This entire book is just about the six girls fighting each other,
completing various tasks, and having various mental breakdowns. Essentially, in
the beginning Maxon is ready to commit to America, and America is unsure about
her feelings for Maxon versus her feelings for Aspen. Maxon takes America’s
indecisiveness as an opportunity to get to know the other girls. Along this
way, he finds himself genuinely attracted to one of them, and then begins to
push America away. America, already scared about her feelings for Maxon and the
idea of becoming a princess, begins to move further towards Aspen.<span style="mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">This
book elicited many emotions from me, and I believe that’s exactly what Kiera
Cass wanted. In The Selection, I was the world’s biggest Maxon fan and I
HATED Aspen. I guess Cass had to give Aspen some redeeming qualities in this
book to make everyone unsure of whom America would eventually choose. While I
definitely fell in love with Aspen a little in this book, I found myself
infuriated at Maxon’s behavior. He became a selfish child, purposely giving
America the runaround only to later claim he didn’t mean to. He pursues
relationships with the other girls all the while telling America she’s the only
one he’s interested in. He wasn’t very honest. Now that’s not to say America
didn’t have her demons, because she was definitely doing the same thing, but I
just found myself getting frustrated at the back in forth. One minute they were
sure of each other, the next they were drifting apart. It was like a bad Taylor
Swift song. <span style="mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">My
number one pet peeve about trilogies is the quality of all three books. Many
times authors have a great idea for the first book, and a phenomenal idea for
the last book. In order to make it a trilogy, however, there has to be a middle
book. And this is one of those times where I feel like the middle book could’ve
been split between the first and last books. Aside from some rebel attacks that
were essential to the plot, this book was a whole lot of America crying and
being self-destructive, and Maxon acting like a playboy.<span style="mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">In
the end, I was very frustrated with this book. But confusingly, I was
enraptured. I couldn’t put it down and I read it all in one sitting. My heart
was thumping and I felt it breaking along with America’s. In terms of writing,
Cass has very few rivals in her ability to make you feel what her characters
are feeling. I just wish this book had been more plot substance and less back
and forth. If Cass’ objective was to make you feel one hundred different
emotions in one book, she clearly accomplished that.<span style="mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">I
honestly can’t wait for the final book, The One, to come out. This
series has my emotions built up and I’m ready to see what path America chooses.<span style="mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">
